How to Pray Christian
Because we are a site dedicated to prayer everyone expects us to have all the answers on prayer…that is not the case here.
We are a site to help people learn about how to pray a Christian prayer but that makes us only one thing…Christian. We will use the Bible as our primary source and inspiration (So if that offends you…you are on the wrong site)
Let’s first look at a very interesting quote from Jesus in Matthew 6:5 And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
This is directly out of Jesus’ own mouth, He warns that hypocrites LOVE to PRAY!!! So a word of warning, if you love to pray out loud in a crowd you are probably classified as a hypocrite in God’s eyes. (Don’t blame me, God said it)
If you are a Christian and you want to learn how to pray the first step is get out of the world’s spot light and into a private place. Let’s keep reading in Matthew 6:6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
So the best first step in learning how to pray if you are a Christian is to test whether you are praying to God (Private place) or for man (out in the open for all to see).
Now I hear some of you really religious types screaming, “So we are not to pray in public?” I did not say you can’t pray in public, what I’m trying to teach you is your best, most effective Christian prayer will be in private.
Next we must address what is a Christian prayer? A Christian prayer is any spoken word or any thought, directly addressing God. Example “God thank you for this perfect day”, or “God, thank you for my family.” Prayer can also be a question, “God, why did you create me?” or “How am I suppose to deal with that?” A word of caution, God does not answer the “Why” question (at least He hasn’t in my life). God sent me to the last 4 chapters of the book of Job 38-41 and that is where I realized I could not handle the answer to the “Why God” question.
The last thing we will discuss is the power of your words. Prayer can also be called any form of communication to God using words. Your words have tremendous power here on Earth. If you are like “most” people, you probably have never thought about your words having POWER. Read/meditate on Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. Still not convinced? Read Genesis 1 and see how many times it is written, “God said” and after those words you will see “And God saw it was good…”. God spoke and then He saw the thing He created with His words. God gave us that same power.
We will dig much deeper into how to pray as a Christian but that should be a good enough start to get your head spinning. Thank you for stopping by, we plan on developing many different resources to help the Bride of Christ learn how to pray a Christian Prayer.
